Tony Award Winner Alice Ripley & TV/Film Vet Robert Clohessy Star In New Film SUGAR!



Tony award-winner Alice Ripley stars in indie film with original rock music; Film/TV vet Robert Clohessy co-stars

Illustrious talents of stage and screen, Alice Ripley (Tony® Winner, Broadway’s Next to Normal) and Robert Clohessy (HBO’s Oz, Boardwalk Empire), have teamed up with award-winning indie director Shari Berman (My Life As Abraham Lincoln) to play spouses in a new feature film entitled SUGAR! The screenplay, penned by Leora Kalish, focuses on a housewife of a Republican candidate for U.S.
Senate who secretly forms an all-women rock band, a decision which turns her entire life upside down. Executive Produced by Robert Kalish and Blaze Kelly Coyle (Echelon 8, The Meat Puppet, Emma Everything), Produced by Lauren Rayner (Dark), with Casting by Jennifer Peralta-Ajemian, the film will be carried by a powerhouse cast. Alice Ripley won critical acclaim and the 2009 Tony® Award for “Best Actress in a Musical” for her portrayal of Diana Goodman in the Pulitzer Prize winning play Next to Normal. Robert Clohessy is best known for playing Correctional Officer Sean Murphy on the HBO drama Oz. He is currently seen on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, and has a recurring role on the CBS crime drama Blue Bloods. To date, Clohessy has appeared in over 100 films, including Across the Universe.

Supporting cast include: Professional musicians: Sheila Earley (drums), Kathryn Danielle (guitar, vocals), and pioneer of women in rock’n’roll June Millington (bass). Playing since 1964, Millington is a founding member of the band Fanny, the first all-female rock band in the world to sign and record entire albums. Also featuring: Billy Sample (Former NY Yankee), Jonathan Tiersten (Sleepaway Camp), Kathryn Kates (Orange is the New Black, Seinfeld) and Michael Pemberton (The Family Stone, Brooklyn’s Finest). The soundtrack includes an original theme song by Air Supply's legendary Graham Russell (Perks of Being a Wallflower), songs by Tammany Hall’s Steve O'Reilly (Scrubs) and all new Joan Jett & the Blackhearts covers sung by Alice Ripley. The film is a co-production by Lauren Rayner Productions and Silver Phoenix Entertainment. 

The Exclusive wrap party is being held at famed NYC hotspot The Empire Hotel Rooftop Lounge Level R. Hosted by Actor Keith Collins & Celebrity Photographer Steve Mack along with special guests including veteran nightlife impresario's Barry Mullineaux & Tony Theadore.
