From Poetry to Hollywood and Back Again

The Los Angeles and London, UK-based publishers Siena Press announce the worldwide release of the award-winning debut collection of poetry, “A Confederacy of Joy: Poems” by poet and polymath, Juan-Paolo Perre.

The collection was chosen as the official 2014 selection for the Legacy Poetry Prize, an accolade designed to recognize and disseminate noteworthy contributions in poetry.

In a recent interview, Mr. Perre stated: “I came back to poetry a couple of years ago after a near two decade hiatus filled with violin concerts, theatre, film and TV and the ‘particular’ universe of Hollywood and as though in a fever created many poems of which this collection represents a significant portion.”

Mr. Perre, born in Italy and an émigré to London, England, is more commonly known to the general public under his nom d’artiste, Adam Alexi-Malle, and has long enjoyed simultaneous careers as a writer, concert violinist, singer and an acclaimed actor of stage and screen. As the latter, starring notably on Broadway in the Tony Award-winning production of “Titanic”, the American premiere of British filmmaker Mike Leigh’s play, “Goose-Pimples” for which he garnered rave reviews and award notice, on television in “24”, “The West Wing” and “The Sopranos” and in films such as “Bowfinger”, “Hidalgo” and “The Man Who Wasn’t There” among others.

“Fittingly, the poems found in this ambitious début collection bring with them an experience and variety in both depth and tone that could have only come from an extraordinary renaissance spirit such as he.” adds David Avigdor Rabin, publisher at Siena Press’ London offices, continuing, “In fact, these [poems] are rhapsodic; the love of words, of place, of persons past and present and a love for and of a world which seems, through his lens, always to be in a miraculous flux between the sacred and profane.”

Mr. Perre has chosen to dedicate “A Confederacy of Joy: Poems” to mentor and idol, the recent United States Poet Laureate, Philip Levine.

“One can clearly see in these poems his ancestral bloodline: from Pablo Neruda to Hart Crane and Walt Whitman to Philip Levine. These poems clamour with a sure and pervasive vision.”

“…this auspicious debut collection hums of a humane music with themes both personal and universal.”
