Casting Valdes incorporates GlobalCastingPro.com platform

International casting company Casting Valdes recently began requiring talent to sign up online at https://GlobalCastingPro.com in order to be considered for the projects they are casting. Casting Valdes co-owner Jorge Valdés-Garcia said today, "GlobalCastingPro.com makes it possible for us to work more efficiently and at the same time provide more convenience and benefits to both talent and directors.  It makes perfect sense to use the technology available to simplify and improve the casting process and our productivity."  Casting Valdes was founded in 1999 by Valdés-Garcia and Sara Bachelder and casts talent for films, tv, commercials and print. "Casting for big budget Hollywood films shot on locations outside the US generally require us to recruit, process, cast, call and pay thousands of extras and local actors to meet the needs of the production and that often means very long hours. GlobalCastingPro makes the casting process flow more smoothly and saves everyone time."  Valdes-Garcia and Bachelder have cast talent on locations in Mexico for films such as Limitless (Relativity Media, 2011), Fast and Furious (Universal Pictures/Relativity Media/Original Film, 2009), and Beverly Hills Chihuahua (Walt Disney Pictures, 2008

Family friendly film To "Pull A Stunt" is now available in all digital formats

Genuine Gypsy Productions, Family friendly film To Pull A Stunt is now available in all digital formats
Genuine Gypsy Productions has now released a family friendly indie film called To Pull A Stunt to all digital formats. It was filmed and produced in Northern Virginia starring: Lindsay Patterson, Carina Czipoth, Albert Anderson, William Flynn, and David Buckler. The film is targeted for a young audience.

Producer/Director Wendy Eaton explains: “Folks (mainly adults) who have seen the film told me that it’s cute and great for preteens or tweens, which is music to my ears. This film has a different look and feel to what is out there now. A lot of the stuff I am seeing is really dark and Hollywood is about pushing envelopes, so I wanted to put something out there that didn’t have the language or anything inappropriate and had a brighter feel to it.”

Speaking of music, the soundtrack includes music by the bands Angel Fall and Lucky Day both led by female vocalist/songwriter Victoria Patchen. Wendy adds, “If nothing else you will really enjoy the music. I want to give a shout out to Lucky Day songwriter/bandmate Brian Huber who made this possible as well. Lucky is exactly how I feel, in that I got to include my favorite music.”

The film is really an underdog story about a young stunt player (Lily) of indie films who replaces a legendary stunt woman in a major film and finds that she is not fitting in. Surprisingly though, the top actress (Kate McCloud) reaches out as a friend and Lily also catches the eye of an actor (Tom Briggs). Kate soon notices that it is becoming more dangerous for Lily "to pull a stunt" at the hands of an unwelcoming stunt crew.

“The irony is that the film To Pull A Stunt is a low budget indie film that is about the making of a high dollar major production that sort of makes fun of the stereotypical actions of Hollywood. I didn’t have the money to turn this in to an action adventure with much cooler stunts, so it is more of a light drama”, Wendy reveals.

To Pull a Stunt is now available on the Vimeo Rent/Buy Platform in Full HD, 720p HD, and SD:

vimeo.com/ondemand/11464 (Full HD and SD)
vimeo.com/ondemand/12032 (720p HD and SD)

Blu-ray/DVDs are being sold on Amazon. Amazon will soon release an online streaming Rent/Buy, but only in SD initially.

For more information on the film, visit the Official website at: www.genuinegypsy.com.

The exciting new blockbuster book, THE LAST ICEBERG ready for film production

Futuristic book author Anne Ousby of: THE LAST ICEBERG lives on the Northumbrian Coast in England. Her stories have been published in anthologies and broadcast on BBC radio. Her stage plays have been performed widely in the area and a television drama , 'Wait till the Summer Comes' was broadcast on ITV. Her first novel 'Patterson's Curse' was published in 2010 by Roomtowrite www.roomtowrite.co.uk (http://www.roomtowrite.co.uk)

'The Leopard Man' was published in 2012 ,closely followed by The Last Iceberg - her first futuristic novel.
Maya Johnson is a young Crime Operative (CO) in a corrupt, brutal little country in the grip of ever-encroaching deserts. This is her story.

'Okay, so, bet you're glad we survived Global warming? Not that I’m blaming you or anything - that apocalyptic stuff made us think. No point going to war if a mass hurricane might come along any time and stomp us? No, we’re all one big happy family now – the Global State Alliance. We've got Capa's beloved President, Lixir Matthews. We've got the Purity laws and the Status quotient and the spanza Troopers and who freakin cares? Did I say? We've got everything in Capa. We live in moon-time - too freakin hot and dangerous out there in the day. The water's polluted, so we drink C - chemically produced orange piss. We work in our colour coding, we live where our status band allows. It's best not to think, or care, or get involved. That was me until the night I saw the little kid in a prison transport being driven out into the desert and discovered what Matthews was really up to. 'Breeding' a whole army of his elite troopers, going to take over The Globe. Don't care about that. This is personal between him and me. I'm on the run now from his beastie boys, but whatever happens I’m gonna exe him, promise. He messed my life up big time, messed up all our lives. Trouble is there’s others queuing up to do the honours. That’s what this is about – how we’re all trying to get him. He doesn’t make it easy and I’m not sure how it’s gonna pan out but one thing’s certain. You’re next punk!'

Fostering Dreams Through Dance Launches Crowdfunding Campaign On Indiegogo

Fostering Dreams Through Dance, a Los Angeles based documentary providing a life-changing experience for a group of 10-12 foster youth through the art of dance, seeks initial funding with its new Indiegogo campaign. The project is designed to educate, empower and inspire foster youth to find their voice and follow their dreams. Internationally acclaimed dancer, Melanie Buttarazzi, leads the program – made up of world-renowned choreographers and instructors.

The film begins with a look into the participants’ lives to allow them the opportunity to express the challenges they face and what obstacles they continue to fight, being in the foster care system. These introductions to our participating youth will serve as the backdrop to the dance program they are set to begin. The program itself will be 30-days of dance education and instruction covering styles such as contemporary, jazz, hip hop, Latin and more. The schedule culminates with a live performance choreographed by the youth themselves for friends, family and supporters to see their progress. After the dance program ends, the film will continue to follow up with the group to monitor current social, academic and self improvement.

Combining elements of the documentary, Hoop Dreams, and such performance based shows as So You Think You Can Dance, the Fostering Dreams group is excited to help a group of disenfranchised youth find themselves and discover their voices in a way that they have experienced first hand. Buttarazzi says, “this is going to be an educating and fun experience, not only for these kids, but for everyone involved. To be able to see them grow and transform through this program will be remarkable. We are sure our audience will agree.”

The excitement surrounding the Fostering Dreams Through Dance project comes from understanding the power of dance as a means of expression and the ability to provide a foundation for enrichment and self-actualization to its participants. This Indiegogo campaign is one step toward allowing the project to fulfill our mission to provide world class instruction to world class kids. We greatly appreciate any and all support! South Bend's "Everybody Has A Story" Music and Variety Show

A concert of eclectic music and variety acts is announced by a new group Everybody Has A Story (EHAS).

The concert is scheduled for 20 September 2014 and will be held at the Century Center in downtown South Bend. C.R. Heckaman, singer-guitarist and South Bend Native, reached out to his circle of friends to join forces and follow his vision to create an original concert event in support of the community. The result is Everybody Has A Story, a concert celebration to inspire pride and unity in all who attend. Our ambition is a musical-variety show that will entertain, inform and delight, while benefitting a local charity. The 2014 beneficiary is the 360 Project, a non-profit ground that works with at-risk youth to help prepare shelter dogs for adoption.

"We want each audience member to leave feeling that even in a small way they were part of something bigger, states Curt Heckman, EHAS Director. "The EHAS organization envisions a wide range of homegrown talent sharing their stories – musicians, choirs, poets, dancers -- performers with a passion for the arts and an affinity for Michiana. The concert will celebrate past successes and future dreams to remind us that each one of us is important. Every one of us has a story worth telling."

The other half of our vision is to offer financial support to a non-profit group that serves the community. The 2014 concert will benefit the 360° Project of Indiana, an organization that pairs less-than-adoptable shelter dogs with at-risk young people identified by the county Juvenile Justice and the Crossing Educational Center. The young people and the shelter animals get a fresh chance for a new start in life. As they train their partnered dogs to be ready for forever homes, the young people learn empathy, patience and practical skills for themselves. The EHAS goal is to establish the EHAS concert as an annual South Bend charitable event to benefit a worthy charity to be selected each year.

An event completely staffed by volunteers, Everybody Has A Story, is actively seeking assistance in the form of a "Street Team" of brand ambassadors, plus partners from the Michiana business community, sponsors, and entertainers with an affiliation for South Bend. The event theme is The River, a symbol of renewal and energy, common to all from South Bend

MOVIE SPOTLIGHT - "REBELS WITH A CAUSE"

How a small regional battle over land grew into American’s legacy
of National Seashores, Parks and Recreation Areas.
It was fight that went all the way to the White House.
Twice. How did they do it?

REBELS is airing in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Washington Dc, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

Trailer and more informationgo to:
http://rebelsdocumentary.org/broadcast/

Academy Award winning actress Frances McDormand narrates this tale about activists’ who-despite reversals, diversions and disappointments – persist in their mission for more than twenty years and foster a national movement to preserve open spaces and shape the environmental movement of today.

The fight begins in the 1950’s with a small group of ordinary citizens in Northern California who band together to protect lands adjacent to urban areas from San Francisco’s rampant development in order to preserve them for public recreation. But what begins as a regional effort evolves into a decades-long battle for many of American’s seashores. It’s a fight that goes all the way to the White House. Twice. So how did they do it?

REBELS WITH A CAUSE tells the story of the dreamers and schemers who fought to keep wealthy
developers from taking over – and destroying – breathtaking natural landscapes. Despite their early efforts, however, “it wasn’t until John Kennedy was elected in 1960 that things began to move…,” says Bill Duddleson, Legislative Assistant to then – Congressman Clem Miller. “We drew up a petition which said only this: ‘Dear Mr. President, only you can preserve this magnificent seashore for all generations of Americans, It’s NOW or NEVER!” recalls Peter Behr, former California Senator.

Stewart Udall, Secretary of the Interior from 1961 to 1969 says “After (Kennedy) appointed me Secretary of the Interior, he sent an Annual Conservation Message, and it included making Cape Cod a National Seashore. We looked at the President’s proposal – then said it would be selfish to just make Cape Cod a National Seashore; let’s have one on each coast! And we proposed Padre Island, Texas…and Point Reyes,” and it only got bigger from there.

REBELS WITH A CAUSE is the story of a small regional effort that grew into a legacy of National Seashores, National Parks and National Recreation Areas around the nation. It’s the story of garden clubs, ranchers, farmers, conservationists, politicians, widows and volunteers all of who worked their way through compromise and negotiation with the American public coming up as a winner. It’s a struggle that crosses party lines, unites seemingly antagonistic foes, falters and is nearly extinguished many times along the way, but is ultimately victorious. Beautiful cinematic footage, clever animation, moving interviews and a very compelling story are deftly woven together in a tale that is especially meaningful for contemporary times.

Kill Me, Deadly the First Film From Opiate of the Masses, LLC

OPIATE OF THE MASSES, LLC has just wrapped its first feature length film and is making the film festival rounds. KILL ME, DEADLY, with principal photography done throughout Los Angeles, under the direction of first time director, Darrett Sanders. The film is a love letter to Old Hollywood — an inventive spin on the beloved Film Noir genre with twists and turns that will delight contemporary audiences and hard core Noir fans alike.

Set in Hollywood in 1947, Kill Me, Deadly is a rollicking satire of classic 1940’s Film Noir genre with a contemporary spin on the archetypal characters that pack this lush world of murder and intrigue. Charlie Nickels (Dean Lemont – Criminal Minds), a hard-boiled but fairly clueless private dick, has been summoned by his prospective new client, mega-millionaire widow and coconut-obsessed Lady Clairmont (Leslie-Anne Down – The Bold and the Beautiful, Upstairs/Downstairs), who believes someone is going to kill her. Why? An anonymous note that reads, “I’m going to kill you.”

Later that day, Lady Clairmont is murdered --shot and then thrown off a bridge, which puts Charlie on the case to find her murderer and her missing prized possession the spooky 300-karat Bengal Diamond, a gem saddled with as many curses as karats.

Due to Lady Clairmont's contemptuous personality, Charlie’s list of suspects is long: Could it have been her cowed son, Clive Clairmont (Nicholas S. Williams)? Or is it her ice-cold but steamy daughter Veronica (Raleigh Holmes)? The butler, Wilson (Time Winters - Sneakers, Defending Your Life)? The erudite gardener with a grudge, Jamie (Paul F. Thompson - There Will Be Blood, Tangled)? Or, maybe Bugsy Siegel (Joe Mantegna – Criminal Minds, Cars 2 and The Godfather III) killed her and stole the Diamond to fund his fantastical vision for Las Vegas!

Charlie's search for the killer and missing diamond sends him crisscrossing 1940s Los Angeles - grilling a lithe heiress, dodging menacing hoodlums, sparring with befuddled LAPD detectives, and falling hard for the most “fatale” femme-fatale he's ever loved: cocktail waitress and vibraphonist, Mona Livingston (Kirsten Vangsness – Criminal Minds).

Will Charlie solve the Clairmont murders?! Will Charlie find the Bengal Diamond?! Will Mona and Charlie realize their dysfunctional love?!

The cast is led by Dean Lemont and Kirsten Vangsness and features Leslie-Anne Down, Joe Mantegna, and Paul F. Tompkins with Raleigh Holmes, and Shemar Moore in supporting roles,. The film also features ensemble actors including Keith Allen, Phinneas Kiyomura, Lynn Odell, Joe Roche, Darrett Sanders, Nicholas S. Williams and Time Winters.

Kill Me, Deadly, by Bill Robens, was originally produced as a stage play, premiering at Theatre of NOTE in Hollywood in July of 2009 for a critically lauded, thrice-extended, sold-out run. The world premiere production smashed box office and attendance records for the thirty-year old theater company.

Bill Robens' screen adaptation explores elements of the film noir genre that could never be executed on stage, and does so without losing the energy and cleverness that made the play so successful. The adaptation offers the wonderful opportunity to bring back the style and excitement of the beloved noir films of the 1940s. Kill Me, Deadly lovingly has fun with the genre, but without losing the danger and glamour that have enshrined those films as an enduring part of the consciousness of filmgoers to this day.

The executive producers are Kirsten Vangsness, (Criminal Minds) and John Money, one of the founding members of OPIATE OF THE MASSES, LLC. Other members of the distinguished behind-the-camera crew include cinematography by Nicholas Trikonis and production designer Krystyna Łoboda (Cesar Chavez and Stitch), costume designer Kimberly Freed, and original music composed by Bill Newlin (Scream Of The Bikini, Malpractice).

OPIATE OF THE MASSES, LLC – It takes a village.” The Opiate of the Masses, LLC roster boasts a core group of dedicated, experienced, and award-winning artists, and an experienced low-budget production team with a collective resume featuring countless produced plays, films and web series that routinely garner awards and critical acclaim by incorporating an enthusiastic team dynamic and ethic focused on U.S. theatrical release and optimal overseas returns.

In the vein of Monty Python, Opiate was founded by a close-knit handful of artistic collaborators, consistently producing exceptional work in a wide variety of styles, venues and formats. The collective core of Opiate met at the venerable Theatre of NOTE in Hollywood. In subsequent years, they have written, produced, directed and/or starred in dozens of hilarious and touching collaborations for both stage and screen. Their films, television shows, stage productions, and web series have garnered widespread critical acclaim, fervent audience admiration and multiple

Actress Courtney Bandeko partners with Cylence Media Management

Courtney Bandeko brings a refreshing face, amplified talent, tailored craft, and refined technique to film and television. Originally born in Angeles City, Pampanga, Philippines, and raised in Denver, Colorado and parts of rural Missouri; Bandeko is now based in Los Angeles and working to magnify her resume with every aspect of an ambitious entertainer, from Theatre to Feature Films, and in case you're wondering, her own web series. Bandeko signed with Cylence Media Management earlier in the month. CMM is a boutique talent management company providing valuable solutions to clients, specializing in strategic content and talent development; located in West Hollywood, California and Atlanta, Georgia. Courtney Bandeko joins other artists at CMM, including Brendan Dunphy and Cheryl McQueen.

2014 promises to be a banner year for Courtney - her two latest works include "Fullscreen" and an upcoming feature film, "Gilt", scheduled to start shooting next month. Giving Bandeko the thumbs up, and inspiration, to make the cross over to join SAG, known as the dominant union for Screen Actors.

Bandeko has a Bachelor of Arts in theatre performance from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Since then she has intensively studied Meisner, initially at the 'Chris Thatcher Acting Studio' in Boulder, CO, followed by the 'Actor's Workout' with legendary teacher Fran Montano. She is also studying at 'Chekhov Studio International' with the famed Marjo-Riikka Makela, and comedy improv at 'Second City Hollywood'. When she's not beefing up her acting skills, you can find the 'bandekoot' knocking big guys around in a boxing ring.

When checking out Bandeko's website, http://www.bandekoot.com, you'll be hit with a lifting quote:
"I believe in magic." - Matthew Davis

"That's exactly what she's going to bring to Hollywood," says Mike Williams, Lead Talent Manager at Cylence Media Management; "Magic. Courtney has been fine tuned to give the quality of what you'll find in a luxury brand. She's turning heads here and we're lucky enough to follow for the ride."

Bandeko's inspirations and help has stemmed from all corners, from her High School English/Theater teacher, "Miss Yung, who was there in the beginning, with my first theatrical performance ever." says Bandeko; to Lady Gaga...who "uses her fame and voice to inspire change and acceptance in our culture. She's provocative. She forces us to think about ourselves and our lives in a positive way." adds Bandeko.

When asked what drew her into the industry, Courtney responded "The work is greater than myself, or any one person, and it is the best way I can affect others in a positive way. Art can be so many things, it can be whatever the viewer or creator needs it to be. Art has the power to be the strongest vehicle for change; it can inspire difficult conversations that are often swept under the rug. But it's also so simple that, many times, all it needs to be is a little reminder that there is still beauty in an otherwise ugly world, or simple distraction from surroundings that can be crippling without little glimmers of positivity and hope."

Charleston Film Premiere Shines New Light On Controversial Topic

Award-winning documentary feature, 120 Days, to hold East Coast Premiere at the 2014 Charleston International Film Festival

After a World Premiere at the Austin Film Festival in November and winning the coveted 2013 CINE Golden Eagle Award in January, filmmaker Ted Roach is ready to bring his film back home to the Creative Coast at the 2014 Charleston International Film Festival. 120 Days has screened in multiple cities across the nation, most recently the Atlanta Film Festival. This week, the film seeks a new audience in the Lowcountry.

This engaging documentary explores the U.S. immigration debate from a unique perspective. Instead of focusing on broad political viewpoints or the overall national impact of the issue, Roach decided instead to tell a story through the eyes of one undocumented family. Be prepared to be moved by Miguel Cortes, his wife and daughters as they struggle to hold on to their piece of the American Dream.

Roach has deep roots in the Charleston area. He attended the College of Charleston for two years and was a member of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. After college, he lived and worked in the community while making many friends and colleagues, including one of the consulting editors for 120 Days. For Roach, the opportunity to screen in Charleston is like homecoming.

“120 Days is an observational, character-based documentary," says Roach. "We tell a very personal family story, but the Cortes family's situation also presents a unique lens through which to examine the larger issues of illegal immigration. It is crucial that the public sees immigration from as many sides as possible. 120 Days offers one unique, compelling perspective from which to view this controversy: through the eyes of a man who could soon lose his family, due to both his own decisions and the U.S. government's current immigration policies.”

Roach will be in attendance for a post-screening Q&A along with cinematographer & co-producer Brad Allgood, camera operator Jonathan Kazmierczak and the project's consulting editor Justin Nathanson, who currently resides in Charleston.

The Charleston International Film Festival begins on Wed., Apr. 9th and will run through Sun., Apr. 13th. Now in its 7th year, the program promises to be engaging, informative and inspirational. This year, the festival is taking a stronger look at films that make a bold statement. Regardless of one's political ideology, the story of the Cortes family will move and inspire audiences as well as challenge many of the myths circulating throughout culture based around the issues of immigration in America today.

120 Days will be screening on Sunday, April 13th at 1:00PM in the Charleston Music Hall.

Actor John Heard’s feature “Stealing Roses” takes light-hearted look at serious topic of Obamacare

"Stealing Roses," a new comedy with heart from writer/director Megan Clare Johnson, produced by Johnson and Little Studio Films will be in official competition at the NOHO Film Festival, April 10-13, 2014 just prior to its US DVD release on April 22, 2014.

Stealing Roses, which was filmed in Los Angeles and Portland, Oregon, stars veteran actors John Heard, Cindy Williams, Oscar Nominated Bruce Davison, Josie Davis, Mark Famiglietti and "House of Cards" Al Sapienza. "Stealing Roses" turns the spotlight on a serious subject torn from today’s headlines - the lack of adequate medical coverage for millions of people in desperate need - in a laugh-filled yet thoughtful way.

Described as a “story of love and economic uncertainty…with a comic twist”, Johnson’s original screenplay for “Stealing Roses” was a finalist at the Austin Film Festival screenwriting contest. Johnson, a former post-production editor and health care consultant, says her film couldn’t be more topical in light of the current political climate surrounding Obamacare, although she didn’t write it with provocative intent.

“I wrote the script seven years ago, so I don’t know if I had controversy in mind, and couldn’t predict that we would have the political/social climate we have right now, but the topic is close to my heart,” recalls Johnson. “I personally am appalled that we have 46 million Americans without healthcare coverage and I began thinking what choices would a person make at the age of my lead character Walter - 61 years old - to save their life partner?”

Co-producer Alexia Melocchi of Little Studio Films was attracted to the script not only for its content but also for its realistic yet seldom-seen portrait of an older couple who are still very much in love. “We don’t really see lasting relationships in movies today,” she laments. “The love between Walter and Rose is part of what drew me to the film. It’s a very intimate story and it’s a different perspective on love than what’s largely seen on screen today.”

“Stealing Roses” has international distribution representation by Worldwide Film Entertainment and is already released in several other countries, including Australia.

The film will screen on Saturday April 12, at 8 PM. Megan Clare Johnson and her producer, Alexia Melocchi and selected cast members will be in attendance and will participate in an audience Q&A immediately following the screening.

Pre-NAB Editors' Lounge Examines How Current Trends In Technology Are Impacting Post-Production

Burbank based AlphaDogs Post celebrated the 11th Annual Pre-NAB Editors’ Lounge with a panel discussion on the latest trends in post-production and what to expect at this year’s NAB in Las Vegas. Topics ranged from 4K to cloud-based technologies, and the future of the post-production professional. Moderated by Journalist, Debra Kaufman, panelists included: Terence Curren (Editor/Colorist and Founder of AlphaDogs Post), Mark Raudonis (VP of Post Production, Bunim/Murray Productions), Michael Kammes (Director of Technology, Key Code Media) and Ramy Katrib (CEO, Digital Film Tree).

The evening began with a discussion on the changes in the 3D market. While the novelty of 3D television has had its run, it’s expected that 3D will not go away entirely due to China’s heavy investment in the market, as well as other platforms continuing to utilize 3D graphics. It was also agreed that film is dead, but is still the best format for archiving picture images. New storage technologies currently on the market include Sony’s Blu-Ray archival disk and the experimental fused quartz-based storage that scientists from the UK and the Netherlands are developing that could store up to 360 terabytes of data. This is equal to 75,000 industry standard DVD’s with potential lifetime data storage of 100 million years. It is expected to be on the market by 2015.

4K UltraHD TV was a hot topic once again this year with Terence Curren, CEO of AlphaDogs using props to demonstrate why consumers won’t be able to see the difference between picture quality in 4K and HD televisions. “The human eye has a limited ability to perceive detail,” said Curren. You would have to be very close to the screen to see a difference between 4K and 1080p resolution, and how many people sit 5 feet from their 65-inch screen television in their home? What makes more sense are better pixels, not more pixels. HDR or High Dynamic Range with more color and a higher bit depth would be better for the consumer experience.” Posting and delivery in 4K (or UHD) as opposed to 1080 HD will require four times the bandwidth, storage and processor power in equipment, meaning post facilities would be required to build an entirely new infrastructure in order to deliver content in 4K. Curren explained, “We’re being forced down a path to put a lot of effort and expense into buying all new gear when the consumer at home will not see an appreciable difference. This is about television manufacturers wanting to sell more televisions, and not about a better viewing experience.”

Providing clients with cloud-based post-production solutions is in higher demand than previous years, but still has limitations due to limited bandwidth and cost. “Besides throughput issues, the storage space in the cloud is still very expensive. Once we have more fiber connected cities, I think you will see this technology move to mainstream,” said Michael Kammes, Director of Technology at Key Code Media. The future of careers in film and television editing within a cloud-based environment would likely create an extremely competitive marketplace, as editors would then have to compete with a global pool of talent. Curren explained “The producers and directors are used to working in the room with the editor. If they get used to being in the room without an editor, at that point the editor can be anywhere in the world, and then economics speak louder than anything else. Check out the VFX industry.”

The evening wrapped with the panelists agreeing that NAB is a great networking opportunity to meet people from around the world. Ramy Katrib, CEO of Digital Film Tree comments “It’s all about the human interactions and meeting people from Asia or Europe that would be hard to meet otherwise.” While NAB no longer seems to pack the punch for any major announcements in gear, it’s still a great way to get educated on the newest technologies available for the post-production professional. “Although it has become more of a social event, I would strongly encourage attending,” said Mark Raudonis, VP of Post Production at Bunim Murray. It’s the best way to get a snapshot of where the industry is in one week, and you’re good to go for the rest of the year.”

Stay tuned to The Editors’ Lounge Channel. The full NAB panel discussion will be available soon. http://www.editorslounge.com/videos.html

COMEDIAN SPOTLIGHT - EMAN MORGAN

Daily Film Forum Exclusive::
Worldwide standup Comedian
from national tours and the hit documentary
"Just Like Us" join us for a moment with
Eman Morgan

DFF: A few of your films, recently “How to Be A Terrorist: In Hollywood with Abu Nazir” and the very noteworthy “Just like Us” – Tell us about them, and how you prepared for them?

Eman – How to be a Terrorist in Hollywood was a sketch we shot making fun of Arabs starting a “How to” school to help other fellow Arabs in need to further their career in Hollywood. Many movies require a stereotypical Arab terrorist role, so it defiantly sparked up an idea to poke fun of ourselves as we prepare for these roles. The producers saw me perform on stage prior to shooting this sketch, and they liked my comedy and stage presence, so they asked me to be a part of it.
Just Like Us was a documentary produced and directed by Ahmed Ahmed. It’s a great movie that illustrates how Arabs in the middle east are just like everyone else in the world; they too like to laugh!
Despite the many challenges and dangerous times they encounter on a regular basis, they just want to laugh and enjoy life just like us here in the states. The tour of comedians traveled and performed all over the Middle East and one stop in New York City.

DFF: How did the project come together in the first place, and how did you end up getting casted?

Eman - I was in New York at the time performing on stage for the New York Arab American Comedy Festival & Ahmed walks in & noticed how well my set was going & with the crowd. He immediately noticed that I also believed in the same value of entertaining Arabs. It was literally perfect how we met. What’s really amazing about the film is that it caught worldwide attention. I got emails & Facebook messages from people all over the world telling me how well they enjoyed it; finally there was a movie explaining to the world that Laughter is a universal language; and how adorable & funny I look in a short tie!

DFF: Are they available to the public to see? If not yet then when?

Eman - How to be a Terrorist in Hollywood can be seen on www.funnyordie.com, www.youtube.com
“Just Like Us” can be seen on Showtime, itunes, Netflix, DVD purchases online, ebay, amazon, anywhere dvds are sold.

DFF: What started you in Standup Comedy? Has this been a lifelong passion of yours?

Eman – I started in Stand up 10 years ago. This summer will be 10 years for me.
Out of 3 other siblings I was the only one that grew up craving attention and wanted to perform for anyone at anytime. For some reason, I love putting a smile on people’s faces. I grew up like that. My comfort comes for others being happy. My first night on stage I bombed so bad I said I’ll never do this again. A friend saw me a week later and convinced me to try it one more time. With nothing to lose and more to prove that I can do this, I tried it the second time and have not stopped since.

DFF: You are a very talented comic, where do you see yourself in the future to come what is your ultimate goal and or personal goal as a professional comedian?

Eman - I just moved to New York City a week ago. I’m defiantly enjoying the change in atmosphere and different culture here. Ultimately as a personal and professional goal, I would like to go on a world tour to do my style of comedy. When I write & perform comedy, I never like to base my set on one particular subject, group, sex or anything. I like to be very universal and talk about everything and everyone.

DFF: Any future projects you'd like to share?

Eman – I have a couple projects in the works that I can’t speak much about just yet.
They will be announced hopefully by the end of summer. In the meantime, I am shooting a series of prank videos that will be released on YouTube.

DFF: What can you tell us about the career of yours, the ups and downs and did you receive a formal education on the subject?

Eman – I went through a very hard time a few years ago. I had a few hard personal problems that were affecting me at the time. And this was a time when I was traveling more, performing the most, and getting some good media attention. Despite that I was very hurt and damaged on the inside, getting on stage and performing for others was the medicine to my wound. I was going through a lot! But at the end of the night after a show, I would shake peoples hand, take pictures, sign shirts, etc. That kept me healthy and helped me get through my problems. I can honestly say that I learned so much from my downs. I turned the negative into positive. Rather than complaining and being bitter about the past, I changed the energy and focus to enjoy my future. It doesn’t take a genius to figure that out. However, believe it or not, some people don’t have the ability to do just that. I love volunteering my time. I’ll perform for charities, help feed the homeless on holidays, and try to be a better person because I was blessed with the ability and gift to make others laugh. I never forget to always be thankful and give back.

DFF: How would you describe yourself as a comedian?

Eman – A huge star in the making! :)
Very ambitious, smart, energetic, and extremely determined to get what he wants.

DFF: What Comedians / Actors inspire you?

Eman – Rather than just picking a big name and saying they inspire me; I’m actually inspired by anyone who is succeeding in life. I don’t just look at comedians. I look at everyone! Although, I would like to mention that lately I inspire myself more than others inspire me. I wake up every morning and say to myself, how can I be a better comedian? How can I be a better person? What mistake did I do yesterday that I can avoid tomorrow? These simple questions, plus being honest with yourself, will defiantly transform anyone to becoming only a better individual.

DFF: How about some of your personal favorite Comics to watch?

Eman- I am a huge Eddie Murphy fan. I can watch delirious and raw over and over.
Dane Cook, George Lopez, Russell Peters & Bill Burr are my favorite comics to watch live.

DFF: Your website, Facebook, twitter, when the world can see Eman next? Or whatever else you’d like to shout out?

Just moved to NYC so I’ll be playing a series of shows here and around the east coast including Boston, DC, and New Jersey. Sunday May 4th will be an exclusive show @ Carolines in NYC I will be doing with a few other Middle Eastern acts.
