This Mother’s Day, Get Swept Away by the Chicago Philharmonic and Romantic Rapture

On Mother’s Day, May 11, at 7:30p.m., join the Chicago Philharmonic at Pick-Staiger Hall for Romantic Rapture: Verdi, Mendelssohn, Prokofiev. The program opens with the popular overture to Verdi’s La forza del destino, “The Power of Fate,” and continues with Mendelssohn’s beloved Violin Concerto. Young virtuoso Benjamin Beilman returns to his Chicago-area roots, fresh from his debut with the London Philharmonic! A graduate of the Curtis Institute and winner of a 2012 Avery Fisher Career Grant and a 2014 Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship, Beilman studied with Almita and Roland Vamos at the Music Institute of Chicago. The concert closes with selections from Prokofiev’s ballet suites for Romeo and Juliet, with excerpts from Shakespeare’s play performed by specially selected actors from Chicago Shakespeare Theater.

Pick-Staiger Hall is located at 50 Arts Circle Dr., Evanston, IL. A free shuttle is available to transport guests from the double-decker parking structure off of campus drive to the entrance of the concert hall. Parking is free on weekends and the concert hall is handicap accessible. Shuttle service begins 45 minutes before the concert, and runs for 30 minutes after the concert.
